Fringe 2004

It is with much excitement that we present our first theatrical production The Good, the Bad and the Lonely:

The Good, The Bad and The LonelyThe Good, the Bad and the Lonely presents five Australian and New Zealand backpackers travelling Europe, encountering all manner of obstacles – adventures and misadventures – as they leave the complacency of home in search of the wider experiences the world has to offer.

What happens when you have no one else but yourself to rely on?

What happens when you start telling yourself what to do instead of listening to others?

What happens when you travel from city to city with nothing but a backpack and a bottle of water?

Whether it’s meeting the love of their lives, being robbed, missing the train or losing their luggage, what emerges in The Good, the Bad and the Lonely is a humorous journey of truth, discovery and acceptance.

Sara, Dean, Joe, Trevor and Melissa are backpacking through Europe. Although they may not know each other or even ever come in contact with one another they are connected through the search for whatever motivates them to travel, through Danny. Danny means many different things. He is the faceless person of inspiration or the voice of deterrence. Danny links the journeys between our characters. Somehow each has either encountered or heard of Danny and he represents something to each of them.

Check-ins, hostels, meeting different people, self-discovery, writing home, missing home, different languages, messy backpacks, Laundromats (or lack thereof), plumbing, hot water, moldy cheese, rusty beds, trains, planes, buses, internet cafes, purple broccoli, local food and alcohol, sex, pickpockets, encounters with any number of these are something all travelers can relate to. Come witness our backpackers deal with these common mishaps and more as they journey on in the eternal quest for the next great place and the next great experience.

Everything is not as it seems, when the façade falls what is left behind? What is the difference between wanting something and needing it? Do we all have the knowledge or the ability to recognize what really is the best for us? How far will we go to fulfill someone else’s dreams and expectations of us?
